Sport Climbing Australia

 Lead - Bouldering - Speed

Tiffany Melius

What sparked your interest in climbing and how long have you been climbing?

I started climbing in 1997 at the age of 14.  I had been doing gymnastics for a long time and wanted a change in sport, but one that would keep up my strength and flexibility.  A neighbour recommended I try climbing at the gym in our community and after trying it once, I was hooked!

Your home gym is?

My original home gym is Rocksports Fortitude Valley (Brisbane, QLD).  My current home gym is Climb Base5 in BC, Canada.

What are you proud of achieving so far and what are your goals?

I am proud of making semi-finals in my first ever World Cup (Bouldering), and winning the Australian National Bouldering Championships in 2016 - 13 years after my next most recent national comp in Australia (2003) when I placed 2nd in both lead and bouldering.

I have decided to train for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, so my goal is to earn that one female spot that is likely to be allocated to Oceania, and represent Australia in the first Olympics where my beloved sport is included!

Do you have any idols?

Many! My most recent fan-girl moments have been meeting Anna Stohr, Akiyo Noguchi, Lynn Hill, and Steph Davis.

Do you have any sponsors?

Pinnacle Sports (based in Brisbane, QLD).  They are super supportive of me as an athlete, and as a person.

Do you have a fun fact about yourself......

I am Executive Director of a non-profit organisation that works with people with mental illness (New View Society), and also a certified life coach.
