Sport Climbing Australia is currently seeking applications for the following vacant positions:


SCA Technical Subcommittee members


Committees' aims are to improve the standard of route setting, competitions, communication between SCA and the athlete cohorts, and coaching across Australia at state and national events. The committees will review each event's results and make recommendations following these eventsThe sub-committees do not have any delegated powers (apart from Selection Committee) but will propose policies and decisions to the SCA board for approval. 


SCA is looking for volunteers to the following technical subcommittees:


Route Setting and Fairness Committee 


There will be seven to ten positions on the committee. Members of the committee will be selected by the Sport Climbing Australia board taking into account relevant route setting skills and experience. Each applicant will be an SCA certified Route Setter. In addition, one member of the SCA board will be a member of the committee. Meetings will be every second month by Google Hangouts.   


Roles and Responsibilities 


Ongoing responsibilities 

Seek expressions of interest for route setters at national events.   

Select and sign off on head route setter for national events.   

Review performance and propose to the board certification of route setters after state and national events 

Provide a report on route setting to the SCA board after each season 


Project Work 

Refine route setting guidelines and recommendations 

Review route setting policies 

Review assessment process and certification 

Reflect on high quality route setting, identify issues and develop solutions 

Propose a plan for workshops and state and national route setter development (developing pathway and training program) 



Competition Policy and Judging Committee


There will be seven to ten positions on the committee. 


Members of the committee will be selected by the Sport Climbing Australia board taking into account relevant event related skills and experience. Each applicant will be an SCA certified Judge. In addition, one member of the SCA board will be a member of the committee. Meetings will be every second month by Google Hangouts.   


Roles and Responsibilities 


Ongoing responsibilities 

Seeks expressions of interest for official roles for national events.   

Proposes to the board the officials for the season 

Reviews results of each state and national event 

Proposes to the board certification of officials after events 

Provides a report after each season to the SCA board 


Project Work 

Review competition policy and provides recommendation to the board 

Review assessment process and certification

Coaching Committee

Members of the committee will be selected by the Sport Climbing Australia board taking into account relevant coaching and high performance experience. In addition, one member of the SCA board will be a member of the committee. Meetings will be every second month by Google Hangouts.   


Roles and Responsibilities 

Coordinate communication and knowledge sharing between coaches 

Develop national certification for coaches 

Develop training program and pathways 

Develop standards and policies

SCA Treasurer – Volunteer Position 

 

This is a volunteer position which reports to the SCA board of Directors.   

 

Time commitment 

Two to five hours per week flexible from home.   

 

Responsibilities 

Manage the SCA bank accounts 

Process payments once approved by the SCA board in conjunction with Executive Officer or Board Member 

Process paypal receipts 

Reconcile transactions in Xero 

Prepare a monthly statement of accounts for the board 

Prepare and signoff annual accounts once per year 

 

Skills and experience 

Book keeping or accounting experience 

Experience with Xero preferable 

Experience reporting to a board preferable

SCA Calendar Manager – Volunteer Position 

 

This is a volunteer position which reports to the SCA board of Directors.   

 

Time commitment 

Some time at the end of each season preparing the calendar for the following year’s season  

Work is flexible from home.   

 

Responsibilities 

Communicate with state bodies to prepare the state competition calendar 

Communicate with facilities and state bodies to book dates and venues for national events 

Will be the first point of contact for booking events on the Australian calendar 

 

Skills and experience 

High level of organisation 

Strong communication skills – written and verbal 

Experience working with stakeholders

SCA Media and Communication Officer – Volunteer Position 

 

This is a volunteer position which reports to the SCA board of Directors.   

 

Time commitment 

One to two hours per week on a flexible basis.  

 

Responsibilities 

Develop a communication plan 

Work with the Executive Officer to draft press releases and newsletters 

Input into social media policy for national and state bodies 

Be part of the team posting social media information 

 

Skills and experience 

Strong written communication skills  

Knowledge of the climbing industry and climbing community

Australian National Team Manager 2017 – Volunteer Position


Sport Climbing Australia is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Team Manager of the

Australian Climbing Team. This is a volunteer position involving the organisation and administration of the Australian Climbing Team. It is possible to apply for the Youth Team Manager, Open Team Manager or both positions.  


Position Description

As Team Manager, you will be responsible for:


Open and or Youth Team

  • Working together with the National coaching team to ensure Team members in each state are receiving the same level of support in the lead up to International Competitions
  • Maintaining good communication between SCA, the team, the coaches and parents of the youth team
  • Registration of the Australian Team members to international events (including licenses for athletes and fees)
  • Coordination of training camps (schedule, info pack, communication)

World Youth Championships

  • Distribution of documentation in the lead up to the World Youth Championships
  • Organisation of travel documentation for the team
  • Transportation, logistics and accommodation when overseas
  • Appointing of subsequent management roles to parents and guardians who will be accompanying the team
  • Ensuring that Team members are aware of their financial and social responsibilities while overseas


You will work in collaboration with the SCA Executive Officer for most of the above tasks.


As an extra the Team Manager can work with the SCA to seek sponsorship and government support for the Australian Youth Team and make sure the team meets its sponsorship requirements.  .


Position Requirements

  • Good communication skills
  • Understanding of the International circuit and basic understanding of competition rules
  • Excellent organisation skills (experience in group travel)
  • Working with children check


This is a one year position. The Team Manager reports to the Sport Climbing Australia Board.

Sport Climbing Australia Director Position


Appointed Director of Sport Climbing Australia

History

Sport Climbing Australia Ltd has been formed to replace Sport Climbing Australia Inc. SCA is the national sporting organisation for the sport of climbing. Its development and operations have relied on devoted and strongly motivated volunteers since its creation. With the recent recognition by the Australian Sport Commission and the admission of the sport to the 2020 Olympic games it is now time to seek board members with diverse business experience.


Position Description

  • Meeting as a board for the development of the sport in Australia. 
  • Governance of the sport of sport climbing in Australia.
  • Further develop the sport of sport climbing in all its aspects. 
  • Coordinate and sanction national and state events.
  • Development of policies relating to events, selection and officials. 
  • Communication with member states, stakeholders, coaching team. 
  • Administration tasks relating to the running of SCA.
  • Meetings are held every month with additional meetings as needed.


Skills and Experience Requirements

  • High level of motivation to develop the sport of climbing 
  • Strong communication skills
  • Previous sporting board experience at a state or national level
  • Experience in governance and policy development 
  • Strong community relationships preferred 
  • Experience with ASC preferred
  • Experience with other boards preferred
